Estradiol 10mcg Vaginal Inserts
Low-dose estradiol vaginal inserts used to treat vaginal dryness, itching, and burning from menopause.
What Estradiol 10mcg Vaginal Inserts Treats
What is Estradiol 10mcg Vaginal Inserts?
Estradiol 10 mcg vaginal inserts are small tablets placed in the vagina with a disposable applicator. They release a low dose of estradiol, a form of estrogen, right where it is needed. After menopause, lower estrogen levels can thin and dry the vaginal tissue, causing dryness, itching, burning, and pain during sex. The inserts help restore that tissue. They are the generic version of Vagifem and require a prescription.
What it treats
Atrophic vaginitis due to menopause (vaginal dryness, itching, burning, and painful intercourse)
How to Take Estradiol 10mcg Vaginal Inserts
- Starting dose: 1 insert (10 mcg) vaginally once daily for 2 weeks.
- Maintenance dose: 1 insert vaginally twice weekly (for example, Monday and Thursday).
- Insert gently into the vagina as far as comfortable using the applicator, preferably at the same time of day.
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration; reassess periodically.
Your prescriber will determine the dose and duration that are right for you. Always follow the directions on your prescription label.

Estradiol 10mcg Vaginal Inserts FAQ
What are estradiol vaginal inserts used for?
They treat vaginal dryness, itching, burning, and painful intercourse caused by thinning vaginal tissue after menopause.
Do I need a prescription for estradiol vaginal inserts?
Yes. Estradiol is a prescription-only medication in the U.S. A licensed healthcare provider must review whether it is appropriate for you before it can be dispensed.
Is this the same as Vagifem?
Yes. These are the generic version of Vagifem, with the same active ingredient at the same 10 mcg strength. Your pharmacist can confirm which version you will receive.
How do I use estradiol vaginal inserts?
Insert 1 tablet vaginally once daily for the first 2 weeks, then 1 tablet twice weekly. Use the applicator to place it gently as far as comfortable.
How long does a pack last?
On the twice-weekly maintenance dose, 8 inserts last about 4 weeks, 16 last about 8 weeks, and 24 last about 12 weeks. The first 2 weeks of daily use take 14 inserts.
How does ordering and shipping work?
After you place your order and complete a provider review, a licensed pharmacist checks it. Once approved, your medication ships from a licensed U.S. pharmacy to your address.
What are the most important risks to know about?
Estrogen products carry a boxed warning for increased risks of endometrial cancer, blood clots, stroke, and probable dementia in older women. Seek medical care right away for leg swelling, chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, or unusual vaginal bleeding.
