What Oxybutynin Treats
What is Oxybutynin?
Oxybutynin ER 5mg is the extended-release form of oxybutynin, sold under the brand name Ditropan XL. It belongs to a class of medications called anticholinergics (antimuscarinics), which work by relaxing the smooth muscle of the bladder. This reduces bladder spasms that cause sudden urges to urinate, leakage, and frequent trips to the bathroom. The extended-release tablet releases medication slowly, allowing convenient once-daily dosing.
What it treats
- Overactive bladder with urge urinary incontinence

Oxybutynin FAQ
What is oxybutynin ER 10mg used for?
Oxybutynin ER 10mg is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, including urinary urgency, frequent urination, and urge incontinence. It works by relaxing the bladder muscle to reduce sudden, involuntary contractions.
Do I need a prescription for oxybutynin ER?
Yes, oxybutynin ER is a prescription medication in the United States. A licensed healthcare provider must evaluate whether it is appropriate for you before it can be dispensed.
How does ordering and shipping work?
After you place your order, a licensed provider or your prescriber's prescription is verified by our pharmacy team. Once approved, your medication is dispensed by a licensed U.S. pharmacy and shipped to your address in discreet packaging.
How long does oxybutynin ER take to work?
Some people notice improvement in bladder symptoms within the first one to two weeks, though full benefit may take several weeks of consistent daily use. Talk to your provider if symptoms do not improve.
What is the difference between oxybutynin ER and regular oxybutynin?
Oxybutynin ER is an extended-release tablet taken once daily, while immediate-release oxybutynin is typically taken two to three times a day. The ER form releases medication gradually and may cause less dry mouth for some patients.
Can I crush or split oxybutynin ER tablets?
No. Extended-release tablets must be swallowed whole to work properly. Crushing, chewing, or splitting can release the full dose at once and increase side effects. The tablet shell may appear in the stool, which is normal.
