What Prednisone Treats
What is Prednisone?
Prednisone 10mg is a prescription corticosteroid tablet used to reduce inflammation and calm an overactive immune system. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as asthma flare-ups, allergic reactions, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory or autoimmune disorders. Prednisone works by mimicking cortisol, a hormone your body makes naturally, to decrease swelling, redness, and immune activity. It is taken by mouth, usually with food, and dosing varies widely depending on the condition being treated.
What it treats
- Allergic reactions and severe allergies
- Asthma and other respiratory conditions
- Rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic disorders
- Skin conditions (e.g., severe dermatitis, psoriasis flares)
- Lupus and other autoimmune diseases

- Certain blood disorders and cancers (adjunct therapy)
How to Take Prednisone
- Take 5–60 mg by mouth once daily, individualized by condition and response.
- Take with food to reduce stomach upset.
- Do not stop abruptly after prolonged use; taper as directed by your prescriber.
Your prescriber will determine the dose and duration that are right for you. Always follow the directions on your prescription label.
