Terazosin HCL 10mg
Alpha-1 blocker capsule for enlarged prostate (BPH) and high blood pressure
What Terazosin HCL 10mg Treats
What is Terazosin HCL 10mg?
Terazosin HCL is the generic form of Hytrin, an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker taken as an oral capsule. It relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck, which can improve urine flow and reduce BPH symptoms such as hesitancy, weak stream, and nighttime urination. It also relaxes blood vessels, lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension. It manages symptoms but does not shrink the prostate or cure either condition.
What it treats
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate)
- Urinary hesitancy and weak stream from BPH
- Frequent or nighttime urination from BPH
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Hypertension, alone or with other blood pressure medicines
How to Take Terazosin HCL 10mg
- Start: 1 mg by mouth at bedtime (all patients)
- BPH: titrate stepwise to 10 mg by mouth once daily; 4–6 weeks at 10 mg may be needed for full response
- Hypertension: usual 1–5 mg by mouth once daily; maximum 20 mg per day
Your prescriber will determine the dose and duration that are right for you. Always follow the directions on your prescription label.

Terazosin HCL 10mg FAQ
Is Terazosin HCL the same as Hytrin?
Yes. Terazosin HCL is the generic form of the brand-name drug Hytrin. Both contain the same active ingredient and work the same way as alpha-1 blockers.
Do I need a prescription for terazosin 10mg capsules?
Yes. We can provide the prescription for Terazosin 10 mg HCL through our telehealth consultation if a licensed provider approves the treatment. Complete our online health questions for the provider to review. If approved, the prescription is sent directly to All Family Pharmacy for pharmacist review, dispensing, and shipping directly to your front door. You do not need to get a prescription from your primary care provider first.
How does ordering and shipping work?
Your Terazosin 10 mg HCL prescription can be provided through our telehealth consultation. Select your medication and complete the online health questions. A licensed provider reviews your health information and, if clinically appropriate, issues the prescription and sends it directly to All Family Pharmacy. Our licensed pharmacists review it before dispensing and shipping your medication directly to your front door. You do not need to obtain a prescription from your primary care provider first.
What is terazosin HCL used for?
It is FDA-approved to treat urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH) and high blood pressure. It relaxes muscle in the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessels to improve urine flow and lower blood pressure.
Why is the first dose taken at bedtime?
The first dose can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness or fainting. Taking it at bedtime reduces this risk; the same applies when restarting after missing several doses.
How long does terazosin take to work for BPH?
Some improvement may occur within a few weeks, but it can take 4–6 weeks at the 10 mg dose to see the full effect on urinary symptoms. Talk to your provider if symptoms do not improve.
Can I take terazosin with other blood pressure medicines?
Sometimes, but combining them increases the risk of low blood pressure and dizziness. Tell your provider about all medications you take, including PDE-5 inhibitors like sildenafil, before starting terazosin.
