Lisinopril 5mg
An ACE inhibitor for high blood pressure and heart failure
What Lisinopril 5mg Treats
What is Lisinopril 5mg?
Lisinopril 5mg (brand name Zestril) is a prescription tablet in the ACE inhibitor class, commonly used to lower high blood pressure. It works by relaxing blood vessels so the heart can pump blood more easily, which helps reduce blood pressure and the strain on the heart. Lisinopril is also prescribed for heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack. It is taken by mouth, usually once daily, and requires a valid prescription from a licensed U.S. prescriber.
What it treats
- High blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older
- Heart failure, as add-on therapy
- Improve survival after a heart attack (acute myocardial infarction)
- Reduce risk of stroke and heart attack by controlling blood pressure
How to Take Lisinopril 5mg
- Hypertension: 10 mg by mouth once daily to start; usual range 20–40 mg once daily.
- Heart failure: 5 mg by mouth once daily to start; titrate as tolerated up to 40 mg once daily.
- Post–heart attack: 5 mg by mouth once daily x 2 days, then 10 mg once daily for at least 6 weeks.
Your prescriber will determine the dose and duration that are right for you. Always follow the directions on your prescription label.

Lisinopril 5mg FAQ
What is lisinopril 5mg used for?
Lisinopril 5mg is an ACE inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. The 5mg strength is often used as a starting dose for heart failure or after a heart attack, or as a lower dose for blood pressure control. Your prescriber will determine the right dose for your condition.
Do I need a prescription for lisinopril?
Yes. Lisinopril is a prescription-only medication in the United States. You will need a valid prescription from a licensed prescriber, which our pharmacy verifies before dispensing.
Is lisinopril the same as Zestril?
Yes. Zestril is a brand name for lisinopril; the generic tablet contains the same active ingredient. Your pharmacist can tell you whether you are receiving the brand or generic version.
What is the difference between lisinopril 5mg and higher doses?
The 5mg tablet is typically a starting or maintenance dose, particularly for heart failure or post–heart attack care. For high blood pressure, many adults start at 10mg once daily and may be adjusted up to 40mg daily. Never change your dose without talking to your prescriber.
What should I avoid while taking lisinopril?
Avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes containing potassium unless your prescriber approves, and limit NSAIDs like ibuprofen, which can reduce effectiveness and affect the kidneys. Do not take lisinopril if you are pregnant or have a history of angioedema with ACE inhibitors. Tell your pharmacist about all medications you take.
What if I miss a dose of lisinopril?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed one. If you frequently miss doses, ask your pharmacist about reminder strategies.
How does ordering and shipping work?
After you place your order, our licensed pharmacists verify your prescription with your prescriber before dispensing. Once verified, your medication is packaged securely and shipped to your address, with tracking provided. Contact our pharmacy team if you have questions about your order status.
